As Chinese, I am sure I will be furious when I see some incorrect news reported by media all over the world. However, it's unavoidable for us to admit, Chinese government did do something not appropiate enough, especially, the control of info. Please, let everything more transparent.

Let the world know, we are right. Tibet is part of China, no matter from historical perspective or reality.

Paradox in Journalistic Education: Why Can not China’s Journalism Students Become Journalists

There is a paradoxical phenomenon in nowadays China that, many graduated journalism students can’t even find a job in journalism while a large amount of graduates from other education background being recruited. A possible reason may be the disproportion between vacations and journalism graduates - over 660 journalism relative school or departments in China’s universities, the number is still increasing - but apparently it can’t simply explain why press and newspaper recruits so many students with no relative education background. Reflecting is necessary: what is wrong in the education of journalism?
The requirement of a competent recruit graduate is just the aim of journalism education. Which kind of students does media industry needs? From the practical perspective, the most basic three abilities are the creative ability of writing, the ability of percipience to the social phenomena with unique perspective, and being able to forecast the trend of journalism development. To learn and comprehend these three abilities is the most significant aspects for cultivate a competent journalist.

Some argue that the journalism educated recruits mostly can “easy begin but hardly persist” One of the journalists I knew graduated from a famous journalism school started and adapted his job perfectly in the beginning, but not long time later he lost his advantage to another recruit with literature education background who couldn’t even write a piece of full-element news in the beginning. What the literature educated journalist needed was just some most basic training and knowledge, the capacity of better organize language make him outstanding.

Firstly, changes should be made to the course structure of journalism education. Up-to-date courses according to journalism practice should be systematically enhanced, to make students more creative and sensitive with the development of media industry. Secondly, pure theoretical courses should be simplified and even cut off for the aim and time limit of undergraduate education. Students need learn more from practice to obtain the ability of seeing and touching the reality with deeper and more unique angle. At the same time, the development of China’s journalism environment requires more journalists with the ability of deeply thinking and criticizing, therefore variety and depth　should be considered when choose theoretical courses.

Pupils Cry for ‘Fan Jin’

“When our teacher gave a lecture on ‘Fan Jin’, I cried, as some other pupils did…”said a pupil in one middle school in Shenyang, Liaoning Province in China. Fan Jin, a famous tragic intellectual in ancient China, won a place in his province examination in his 60s, and suddenly got mad, because he found that he couldn’t bear the late-coming fame and gain. (11th Jan Chinese Youth Newspaper)

It is a famous article in China castigating the old civil service examination system. Why does it make a 21st century pupil burst into tears? It’s really a question worth discussing.

In pupils’ opinions, they cried inconceivably because the fickleness of harsh examination system seemed to repeat in nowadays society. When they get a good mark, teachers, parents will try their best to satisfy them; if not, they can hardly have a happy life no matter at home or at school. The freaky reality makes them feel helpless. All this reflects middle school students’ embarrassing and harsh life in China.

First of all, as I mentioned in my previous entry, the examination oriented education system is absolute great pressure. Teachers are likely to evaluate pupils by their marks. The higher mark you get the more chances you can obtain in school. You will easily be teachers’ focus and liked by them. But if you are not able to get an ideal mark, some kind of discrimination and other embarrassing things will follow you. And you will find it very difficult to let your teachers get rid of the bad impression of you. So, underachievers look like Fan Jin before winning the award, under unbelievable pressure and repression.

Secondly, parents’ opinions also give their children certain influence. In China, there’s a saying that parents always hope that their children will have a bright future. A good student with high mark is always considered as a to-be somebody, while underachiever is thought to lag behind them and can not make any difference in the future. Some parents will spoil their good children who are always whiz kids at school, while what underachievers can have is tongue-lash. They easily ignore the sound development in mind and body of the children, and can not build a good relationship with them.

Last but not least, it’s society’s responsibility. For example, every year after the entrance examination in June, the Press will focus on the students who get the highest mark. Interviews of them occupy quite a lot of pages of newspaper and their teachers and parents show their happiness in front of the camera. No one cares about ordinary students and the underachievers.

‘Fan Jin’ is not a simple story. It’s a historical mirror. What we can see from it is the unadvanced education system. Seeing pupil’s tears, it’s time for us to consider today’s education situation, and choose an appropriate method to cultivate our children because it’s not only related to the youth, but also to our social long-term development.

Based on this background and with the problem of "when to license 3G, how many licenses, license to whom", the issue of split of China Unicom has become the most economically viable option. It is imperative to improve the monopolistic situation, and in such a constant deepening of the reform of the telecommunications, Unicom will continue to play a key role.

Despite various restructuring plan complicated, the core purpose which is to change the current imbalance competition situation in the market has been clear. Therefore, whether Unicom is divided into two new mobile operators or it’s allocated to the China Telecom and China Netcom, the most important thing of the problem lies in whether such reorganization could promote competition, thus makes the development of the whole industry into an optimal direction, rather than evades and further consolidate its monopoly to monopoly status.

What operator’s name shown on the phone screen? It’s not important to the overwhelming majority of ordinary users, in fact. Recently, a company in Dongguan, Guangzhou in China notified the staff not to celebrate Christmas in the company. The manager said, what they believe is Sinology, what they advocate is Chinese traditional festival, that’s why they don’t allow the staff to celebrate western festival such as Christmas. Qingming Festival, Mid-autumn Festival, Spring Festival…the celebration atmosphere for these traditional festivals gradually died away, but, Christmas and other Western Festivals become more and more popular. In recent years, more and more people advocate that we must all be on guard of the cultural aggression. This point pushes through the modification of holiday system to some extent. “Ban Christmas” demonstrated a kind of “Culture Discipline”. But, Can it completely be banned? I think, it’s Impossible and not necessary.

Comparing to the thousand-year history of Spring Festival, Christmas is quite a young festival, which is known to Chinese people in past 30 years. Why is it so popular? Obviously, it’s related to political civilization, advanced economy as well as mighty culture. However, the root is Christmas has the popular cultural factor which is liked by Chinese people. If we can throw away cultural discrimination and attitude of self-protection, Christmas is absolutely irresistible. Cordial Santa, always easygoing and makes us feel warm. That’s a little bit different from Chinese festival’s solemnities and formal.

Romantic. When we imagine our dear Santa climbing down the Chimney and putting the fancy gift in our prepared socks, we will feel very happy. It is like a beautiful legend. Thinking of our Chinese Traditional Festivals, people always have to take nostalgia and other things into consideration. That’s why Christmas becomes more and more attractive.

Relaxed. Spring Festival always makes us feel exhausted. Visiting relatives, sending gifts to each other, ceremonies and dining together... which are all unavoidable. But Christmas is different. No pressure, no mission, only one diner, and everyone can enjoy himself totally. What Christmas brings to us is relaxation and pleasure which is really treasure in contemporary society.

Warm, relaxed and romantic…these are brought by Christmas, which are expected by Chinese people but difficult to obtain. That’s decided by the cultural connotation but not religion property. So, don’t go to extremes, and make yourself enjoy it. Chinese should carry forward our traditional festivals, but not at the cost of banning other countries’ festivals. And just welcome some interesting festivals in other countries and have a good time.

Personal Income Tax Adjustment Need Not at the Cost of Reducing Fiscal Revenue

The 31st Session of the Tenth National People's Congress Conference was held on 23rd December, 2007. Rising up the threshold of Personal Income Tax has become a hot issue and more and more clear. Finance Minister Yuren Xie stated, the threshold is likely to rise from RMB 1600 to RMB 2000, and the percentage of wage-earner taxpayers will reduce from 50% to 30%.

Finance Minister delivered us of all our fears of the threshold of personal income tax. Now, it’s not a good time to talk much about whether the threshold is too low, but, there would not be notable floating though the possibility of further increasing still exists. After this topic, following words from Minister Xie made me feel a bit upset – once the threshold is raised to 2000RMB per month, there will be a 30 billion loss in fiscal revenue.

Similar opinion also emerged last year –at 17th January. 2006, Jiping Wang, head of Beijing Local Tax Authority asserted that, as soon as the threshold being adjust to 1600 RMB, there will be a deduction of total 1.6 billion to local tax income; considering this, a series of tax-free income categories, such as communication subsidy, housing accumulation fund, medical insurance etc, will be taxed. A great debate was caused by this speech – One of the most significant principles of lawmaking is no tax should be collected from citizen’s basic living fee, however, which of former tax-free category is not populace’s “basic living fee”?

Certainly, there’s no doubt that Minister Xie will take measurements to remedy the reduction of fiscal revenue; whereas these financial efforts might make people benefited from the threshold adjustment felt uneasiness, the sacrifice of fiscal revenue is not necessary neither.

Before the tax threshold adjustment, there are 50% wage-earners pay taxes, the question is: how much contribution have they made to the individual income tax? Minister Xie’s answer was: about 65% individual income tax was draw from these 50% wage-earners, at the same time, 20% rich population only offered 10% of national individual income tax. The well known 20% - 80% law indicates that, normally approximately 80% social wealth is owned by 20% high-income people. But it seems the rich people always have more ways to avoid the levy of tax than pay actively, though at the same time the low-income tax payers have no options to avoid. Based on this, simply raising the threshold without corresponding measures will not only reduce the tax burden of wage-earners but also certainly decrease the fiscal revenue.

The equitableness of tax drawing is based on two aspects: reasonable threshold and various responsibility sharing. If the threshold adjustment is dissatisfying common people while continuously decreasing fiscal revenue, then apparently the methodology of tuning needs more deliberating. Basically, personal income tax plays as an adjusting lever, the high-income class should pay more.

In America, the threshold will increase along with the personal income increasing, which means to an individual tax payer, the higher income, the lower threshold, until every penny of income is taxable. Accordingly, in China only the affluent class yet wage-earners could be able to profit from the non-flexible tax threshold.

Actually, there is also differed participating in personal tax in China. For instance, people with more than 120 thousands per year, should pay the tax compulsorily, but in fact the major tax income is come from wage-earners. Obviously, the absence of high-income people has delayed the process of increasing the threshold of income tax; what is more, the bound of acceptance to the reduction of national financial revenue will become a realistic problem.

In conclusion, an ideal threshold adjustment to personal tax lawmaking should enhance the surveillance to high-income class and clarify their responsibilities while raising the threshold. Only by this mean, there will be no more heavy complaint about the reduction of financial revenue, which could only make people misunderstand that relevant departments would fill the reduction with using unnecessary fund.

Eating Crocodile With Tears?

A Hot Pot Restaurant hired some chef to show the process of killing crocodile in order to attract people to come. Big advertisement posters were put up in the centre of the city and people can easily check the time of the shows. “We think it’s a strategy of promotion. We opened recently, and we only want to get our name known. Speaking of the bloody of the show, it’s a matter of preference.” said a man in charge of the restaurant. (20th Dec, Dongfang Today) It’s universally acknowledged that crocodile is very vicious animal. It’s hard to imagine that the dying vicious is put on the chopping block and looks as a sheep among the shearers. It struggles to survive but almost impossible, which is held up as “a sensational show” by the boss of the restaurant. Bloody, cruel…It’s too horrible to look at, at least in my eye.

Quite a lot of people admit that the show is too bloody and inhuman but they still vie with each other in sharing eating “the victim” of slaughter. It’s really lamentable that their sympathy cannot triumph the lure of food. It is said that crocodile will burst into tears when it is wolfing down its prey, but fictitious tears. So do people do so when they eat it?

What the restaurant does is beyond reproach. However, at the cost of destroying humanity is ridiculous and not necessary. Just think of the shocking feeling brought to our heart and eyes. Putting up naked bloody slaughter in front of all the people for the purpose of getting more customers, then, awful influences on children will be too dreadful to contemplate.

According to the law, killing crocodile is not illegal, but it doesn’t mean they can show the process of killing, unscrupulously. There are ethics and regulation besides laws. Bloody killing show is absolutely a kind of heart detriment to people.

As the first province carrying on “Humanity Slaughtering”, Henan Province held the “Chinese Humanity Slaughtering Plan” on 16th December this year, which became the focus of the society and well-reputed. But, only a few days later, the “poor crocodile case” became absolute counterexample. What a shame!

A civilized country should not be the hell of animals. If we can’t avoid eating animals, the only thing we can do is to leave some respect humanity to them, at least, to their death.

Minimal Assurance Needs To Change

2008 Coal Production Transport Requirement Joint Contract Summary Council ended on 18 December 2007. Electricity coal price will rise about 10% next year. According to price linkage system of the coal and electricity, the electricity price will rise if the coal price rises, but it hasn’t been adjusted yet this year. Five main Electricity Groups have complained that the coal price rising will put pressure on enterprises and hope to solve it by raising the electricity price. Electricity coal is a kind of "plan coal", the price of which is much lower than the price on market. Although under the pressure of Executive Order, the state-owned coal enterprises can’t agree with it all along. Coal enterprises think that the price is too low and always think of raising price or reducing the electricity coal supply indicators. On the contrary, for cost considerations, electricity enterprises not only wish the price of electricity coal to be cheaper but also to buy more.

As the target of the two sides differ too much from each other, in recent years, the Production Transport Requirement Joint Contract Summary Council almost broke up every time – without the "matchmaker" of government, it will fail to reach agreement on fundamental.

This year, the price of electricity coal has finally been relatively highly increasing. It should be said that, it has certain inevitability. Since March of this year, the growth of China's Consumer Price Index (CPI) has remained at more than 3% for nine consecutive months, the whole year of which is expected to 4.6%, and this momentum will continue. Under the growing pressure of inflation, if the price of electricity, oil, natural gas and other resources still rose, it really should be a test to the affordability of the market and the residents.

The rising costs will force price up. The state establishes price linkage system of the coal and electricity is just based on this kind of logic. Changqing Cao, the prices Secretary of National Development and Reform Commission, has made it clear that, to the tariff adjustment, we not only have to consider the impact of the rise in the cost of coal, but also should consider the digestion ability for the electricity enterprises, as well as the affordability of the residents. After the rise of the electricity coal price, electricity enterprises should firstly be trying to digest the increasing cost because of the rise of the electricity coal price. After all, this digestion is limited, and even more the state-owned monopoly enterprises have no such enthusiasm. Therefore, the issue of affordability of the residents must be put on the agenda.

So, how to resolve the issue of affordability of the residents? The most direct and most effective way is to prop up the low-income families and residents, or increase their income, Because prices basically has little impact to the mid/high-income families and residents and the most affected is the low-income ones. As long as low-income families have the protection of the basic livelihood, the affordability of the residents will no longer be a problem. In fact, in this year, the central and local governments have allocated or provided the price subsidies for several times and in some localities have also raised the minimum standards of living. But such subsidies and adjustment are random, without institutional protection. I think that in order to protect the residents’ affordability of inflation, a linkage system of social security standards (including minimal assurance standards, minimum wage standards, etc.) and consumer price index should be the established - like the linkage system of coal and electricity.

Hearing of somebody won RMB 100 million by buying lottery, journalists came in flocks to see, hoping to witness the “time of wonder”. On 3rd December, minister of propaganda of the Lottery Centre in Gansu, China invited all the journalists to have a dumpling feast. Acknowledged the lucky guy had already taken the huge sum of money and “escaped”, journalist felt disappointed, and blamed on the lottery centre not letting them know. (Reported on 5th December by Dongfang Today)

People never stopped questioning the authenticity about the prize-winning lottery tickets. “Why are all the numbers even?” “Will there be any skullduggery?” Aiming at these questions, the lottery centre explained that every time when they drew a lottery, there must be hundreds of audiences, as well as staffs of notary office. Also, lottery centre showed the prize-winning lottery ticket to the press.

However, the questioning never stopped. People were desperate to know who the lucky guy was. “We didn’t see the winner. How can we believe?” said one journalist, who didn’t want to tell his name.

Well, it’s obvious. All of the problems will be solved if the winner put himself forward. Journalist tried every trick in the book only wanted to find out the winner, but still couldn’t prevail against the lottery centre’s strategy - luring the enemy from his base. Therefore, almost all the journalists were targeting at the Lottery Centre. But, did the lottery centre do anything wrong?

An 80-year-old woman sells newspaper in a severely cold weather. She is smoking and shivering. Leaning on the wall of a warm take-away food restaurant, she’s heavily muffled up in an overcoat. The pictures published through internet strike many people.

There isn’t any information about the old woman’s family. All we can see is her hoary hair and her face covering in lines and wrinkles. Many people left their comments and said they were moved by the old lady’s spirit of earning her own living, which stimulated them to buy a newspaper from her and they thought she set a role modal to the young, because she’s still very diligent although at this age. But, seeing these pictures, I feel ever so sorry and shocked.

Moved!? I know, in our society, we really in need of something which will make us feel moved, but it must be true-heartedly moved. When I saw the pictures, I didn’t think of anything about how noble the example she set. What I care is why she still has to do this in such a cold weather; why there’s nobody taking care of her. Though we all have no idea about her family, her children, it’s mortifying that she’s doing this at her age.

At this age, she should enjoy her family relationships in a warm house, and her children must take care of her very well. So why is she here? Where are her children who should support her? If she doesn’t have any child, why didn’t government and related department do anything?

If that’s because her children doesn’t take up the responsibility of supporting her, civil administration department should do something to persuade her children; If it’s because there is some trouble in her family, she has to sell newspaper to earn living, related department can help her solve it through the social welfare channel in China; If she doesn’t have any child, government are obliged to take good care of her.

In conclusion, facing her, I can’t help feeling sorry. I think we should make a confession-her children (if exist) or related department or every one of us should. Do we really do well enough to look after the seniors? What they need most is caring, I think. We should take action as soon as possible. If you’re hesitated, just think that you also can’t avoid getting old…

Forbid love between teacher and student?

City College of Science and Technology University in Wuhan, China, required the supervisors to sign on the “Student Management Education letter of commitment”, which included one clause: Teachers and students can not have any love affairs. This became a hot issue. 97 supervisors signed on it till 3rd November.

I remember there used to be a teacher who was fired by the university because he was in a relationship with a student in last year. Is it really inappropriate for a teacher to have relationship with a student? A survey showed that 50% students thought it is acceptable to fall in love with teachers, while only 25% of them insisted on fighting against it.

Actually there are many romantic love stories between a teacher and a student. For example, Lu Xun(famous writer in China) and Xu Guangping(see picture 1), Shen Congwen(famous novelist in China) and Zhang Zhaohe(see picture 2). People take delight in talking about it but not treat with contempt.

In my opinion, avoiding teachers falling in love with their students seems to be a quite old-fashioned viewpoint and a little bit unethical. Teachers and students in the university are all adults. Everyone has right to pursue his happiness, especially his love. Free love is one of the most important things in a human being’s life. School forbidding teachers and students’ free love is inhuman. Just think of being restricted by others, it’s quite obvious that we will find it unbearable and we will really suffer a lot if we don’t have freedom, no matter what kind of freedom. Without doubt, it’s a torture, isn’t it? Why the school has the right to treat teachers and students as that way? It’s absurd, I think.

In the eyes of the law, this behavior is illegal. Marriage jurisprudence of China prescribes that love and marriage is personal affair and personal right and freedom. People who meet the terms prescribed by the law can fall in love with anybody you like (of course, the other side must agree), no matter where you are from, what party you are side with. If you love each other, just do it. Nobody can stay out of law, university either.

Several years ago, marriage of university students was also treated as illegal by university. But the law backed up the students, and universities had to cancel the unreasonable regulation. Well today, history repeats itself. University needs to chew upon it.

Dan, 12, got up at four or five every morning. Instead of going to school, she went with her mother, a cleaner, and helped her clean the street. The besom is giant while the little girl is thin and weak but determined. It’s reported by Huaxi Metropolis recently.

A citizen took pictures of the girl and posted it on “163 BBS”, named, the most beautiful cleaner in Chengdu (capital of Sichuan Province, China), which suddenly became a hot topic, attracting many BBS users to comment on it. Some said: “You helped your mother clean the street, and we are all proud of your considerate.” Many similar praises such as “Life is tough but it’s not your fault, and it’s injected with color because of you” are in the majority.

However, I really feel shame of that. She’s only 12 years old. At this age, she should enjoy her school time and lead a worriless life. I am absolutely proud of her and moved by her. But is it “colorful” when we see a little girl bearing the heavy burden of life and having no chance to go to school? Sorry! To this aspect, I can’t see where the so-called “color” is.

I remember, in past few years, many primary schools began classes at half past seven. Most of the children had to get up at half past six, which made their parents write a joint letter, requiring half an hour more in order to let their children to have enough sleep. Government and school considered it seriously and made a decision of postponing the class time to eight o’clock. Thinking of Dan, the poor girl, got up three or four hours earlier than other pupils everyday, held a titanic besom to clean the street. It’s an incredible hardship, I believe.

It’s no doubt that our parents used to lead an extremely tough life when there were young. Such as one BBS user said “We used to get up in the midnight, chop wood and mow grass…” We should face it, I know, because it’s China’s history. Burdensome life made Chinese breathe severe air. But do you want this hardship replay again today?

After Reform and Opening-up in 1978, per capita GDP raises to more than 1000 US dollars in these years from 100 US dollars. In 2006, our total government revenue reached RMB 3,876 billion (258.4 billion pound ish). I think it’s necessary to toughen up children and let them go through the mill. But going too far is as bad as not going far enough. 20 years prosperity, we have reason to let every single child go to school and have enough to eat and wear. The more prosperous, the much we have to follow the needy families closely. What we need is better social welfare system.

For the past few years, with the changes of dietetical habit and social environment, teenagers become sexual maturation at a much earlier age. 11 or 12 years old pupils show the signal of sexual maturation as they are just in primary school. School education didn’t pay much attention on this aspect, so most of the students learn the sex education knowledge through adult internet or DVD, and some pornography without proper instructions of sex education.

Statistics of China Population Net shows that 10 million females aborted in 2006-with a quarter under 18. Maternity and Infant Healthy Institute of Guangzhou also distributed some data: from January to July this year, 300 females took abortion operations each month, which included 1/4 or 1/5 minors. As a matter of fact, teaching sex education in primary school or middle school is not news. But, being influenced by traditional view, teachers and parents of pupils always stand humming and hawing, and never clearly introduce it. Take myself as an example, when I was in high school, our sex education teacher never said a single clear word. After 45 minutes she usually escaped from our classroom as soon as she could. We were still very confused, though we have had this lecture for a whole semester. So the deep penetration sex education as the way No.4 Middle School did was rare.

It’s vastly different from many other countries, such as UK, France etc. Sex education usually begins at an early age, for example, at children’s primary school time. “Primary school-aged children need age-appropriate information about the biological processes of sex and reproduction”, which is said on The Better Health Channel (BHC), establishing in May 1999 by the Victorian (Australia) Government. As we know, in these countries, sex knowledge is not an embarrassing topic, and children can discuss with their parents freely. Children feel curious about sex, but nobody gives them a proper guidance. They will easily go to extremes. As far as I am concerned, it’s time for education organization to establish suitable sex education system in order to bridge this knowledge gap. Don’t be shy and without ambiguous. Appropriate teaching material including books and videos are all necessary. Also, sex education is different from chasteness and condom education. It must be a lecture which students can benefit knowledge of sexual psychophysiology as well as sexual morality and law from.

It is said that the Swede refers to sex education as a life-long course. Chinese still have a long way to go. But I firmly believe that it will be better and better before long.

Can you stay in the gorgeous building with a good conscience ?

Yangzhuang primary school, in Yingquan District of Anhui Province, China, applied for international aid funds. Teaching building of the school seemed to be dilapidated, while the local government house is magnificent. The phenomenon seems to be very ridiculous and shocked, at least, in my opinion. Japanese Mr. Shuiguzhun, a staff of Japanese aid organization, coming to do a field survey, surprisingly found the vast differences between the two buildings (primary school teaching building and local government house). He doubted that why government lavished so much money to build such a splendid building, while the primary school teaching building looked like “ruin”, although, the Japanese organization finally approved of allocating supporting funds to the school. But this survey was put on a Japanese newspaper. Chinese shame, isn't it? Treating pupils as this way, really unbearable.

It is universally acknowledged that Japan is generous to education. The most beautiful building you can see in countryside is absolutely a school teaching building, because the Japan education funds take up 6% of its national income, ranking 1st in the world. After world war Ⅱ, controlling consuming, saving money for education became their basic national policy. So how could Mr. Shuiguzhun understand?

Chinese either. Though local government “quibbled”, construction of government house was legitimate, and they didn’t spend a penny of public finance. Meanwhile the hardware facilities of school were provided by country, which wasn’t local government’s responsibility. Also they said the government of Yingquan District was too impoverished to afford it.

How paradoxical! How dare you stay in a well-decorated, full-appointed office, but take no notice to the school in such a tough condition only 10 km far away. Compulsory education should be one of the significant issues that government concerns. Don’t you feel ashamed of using others money to rebuild the school, and you, enjoy the “sinful” comfortable, and disregarded totally!

Shabby school, and the grand government house, being put together, it is self-evident. The more the government explained the more embarrassed. That's enough of your cheek!

It’s not a single phenomenon. Frankly speaking, I witnessed the same situation in my hometown. Beside my mother’s old house there was a school, with a klunky building and simple and crude equipment. However it’s the only one primary school for children in that village, while government there loves fireworks. When festival, the night sky is gorgeous, shining the frazzle, below.

Underachiever Discrimination

Teachers of Dongguan Huizu primary school in Henan Province, China, asked the underachievers to pretend to be ill in order to “escape” from District uniform examination assessment.

Li crying for the whole day, made his mother Ms. Li quite worried. “I tried to ask him, and he told me that because he didn’t do well in past exams, his teacher asked him to pretend to be ill. It’s ridiculous!” The mother of the 11-year-old boy still couldn’t help being angry.

As Ms. Li said, it’s not the first time that her son’s teacher asked him to cheat, and other students who didn’t have good marks in exams were required to do the same thing. “It’s the District uniform exam. If pupils don’t do well, it will bring bad effect to the teachers’ reputation.” said Ms. Li, with extreme furious, “I think my son has the right to take the exam, no matter how he does it.”

Well, it sounds to be quite absurd, but still ordinary in China, where exam-oriented education system takes the leading position, although government always emphasizes the importance of education for all-round development. I think it’s a meaty theme for study and debate.

To be honest, when I was a pupil, I didn’t need to take any exams since I did well enough in during-semester tests. (That’s our school’s encouraging policy for hard-working students.) I used to wish if I could escape from all the exams, it would really be the most fantastic thing in the world. But oddly disappointed feeling came up when I saw others taking exams, because I think, I lost the chance of taking exams.

Now just come back to the issue. First of all, taking examination is students’ right, obviously. Depriving of it, I mean in such a situation, it will be kind of esteem detriment. It doubtlessly must make Li feel seriously frustrated and heart-losing. You know it’s always not very easy for children to rebuild self-confidence. Here is a picture showing that a boy wanted to jump from the building to commit suicide because the teacher’s words hurt him(from Information Ontimes in China).

Secondly and importantly, it’s cheating. In order to deal with the assessment of education, teachers made a choice of telling lies, which surely set a bad example to children. The reputation of themselves, and the prestige of school, both will be elegant reasons. But, if teachers were cheaters, what would the children think?

Then a problem has arisen. Why are the teachers so anxious about the marks of students? The answer is that education evaluation department assesses teachers work by their students’ mark of exams. Using this ruler, can the result of assessment come up to the education evaluation department’s expectation? I believe not.

Blaming on teachers too much makes no sense, I think, because both students and teachers are the “victims” of exam-oriented education system. It’s necessary for teachers to treat every student on an equal footing, and more pressing issue must be adjusting the education evaluation criteria practically. A relaxed education environment surely makes students more comfortable.

Don’t worry if you are not a top student in class, Bill Gates either.

Pan thought he lost 100,000 Yuan(about £6,700 ) after several months’ spilling money gambling game. Then he decided to kill himself.

And even, one pit-fall leads to endless misery and regret. That is an old Chinese saying.

Government, society and family are obliged, and imperative to create some opportunities to enrich young people’s life of the mind. Especially the government, opening some camps of science or society,for example, will be helpful, and of course, free is best, because in China, many family still can’t afford the camp fees, especially the migrant worker’s family as Pan’s. That’s why Psychologist Ms Sudan Xu stated, as the background of family, pan must easily welter in unhealthy games, such as gambling, which I think, is really a dangerous excitement.

Eventually, “Life is valuable. But life belongs to us only once.” I am sure most of us know it thoroughly. Pan could choose between death and bravely facing reality. Unfortunately, he made such a decision.

I would always like focusing teenager’s problem because I think, to some extent, (maybe) to be a little bit exaggeration, it has respect to the future of a country. In my opionion, it’s difficult for a country to be stronger and have a prosperous prospects in the furure if it never follows adolescent education closely.
